On Wednesday, February 1st, Officer Hoekstra and Officer Rizzo from the Monee Police Department stopped by MEC. They visited all classrooms, including the CIBS classroom. The officers spoke with the students about their interests and plans for the future. The students expressed an interest in pursuing basketball at the high school and at the college level. The importance of making good choices and academic and athletic achievement was talked about to achieve success in life.
The officers also talked about their personal postsecondary education and career paths that led them to become police officers. The students learned about the application process, including the physical and written tests, and the police academy experience. The students asked many questions about the equipment that police officers carry, their salary, and the experiences they have had on the job.
Before leaving, the officers shot some hoops with the middle school students. This interaction was a great opportunity for the officers and students to develop an understanding of each other and establish a positive relationship.
